The School of Music at Memorial University of Newfoundland seeks to fill a 3-year Teaching Term appointment in Applied Piano at the rank of Assistant Professor, effective September 1, 2021.  We seek an artist with a national or international profile. Teaching duties will include undergraduate and graduate instruction in applied piano, piano pedagogy, and chamber music coaching. Other teaching duties, in keeping with the successful applicant’s experience, may be required. This position is subject to budgetary approval.

Memorial University is home to Atlantic Canada’s largest and most comprehensive school of music. At the undergraduate level the School offers Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music Joint with Bachelor of Business Administration programs in performance, musicologies, composition, jazz studies and music education to 150 students from across Canada and around the world. At the graduate level, the School offers M.Mus. programs (conducting, performance, performance/pedagogy) and M.A./Ph.D. programs in ethnomusicology to more than 50 students from across the globe. The School’s faculty of 25 performers, composers, and scholars enjoy international reputations in their fields and are active partners across the province’s vibrant musical, artistic, and cultural communities. Qualified candidates will hold, or be close to completion of a doctoral degree (normally a DMA) in piano performance and/or piano pedagogy, or hold a master’s degree in piano performance and/or piano pedagogy with substantial commensurate professional experience at national and international levels. The successful applicant will have demonstrated excellence in creative-scholarly activity, including national or international performing and recording experience (where possible, we strongly encourage the inclusion of recent, live performance video) and a demonstrated record of excellence in teaching at the university level. Salary for this position is dependent on qualifications and experience in accordance with the terms of the Collective Agreement (
