Tenure-Track Position, Composition, School of Music

Brandon University is a national leader in providing high quality education to over 3,000 full- and part-time students in arts, sciences, education, music, and health studies.  Based in southwestern Manitoba, Brandon University also offers pre-professional and Masters programs, as well as innovative and award-winning outreach programs in a personalized learning environment.  The School of Music is one of Canada’s foremost institutions for musical instruction.  With a world-class faculty dedicated to the individualized training of its students and the highest levels of artistic excellence, the School of Music maintains a faculty/student ratio of 7:1 to ensure the highest quality and standards of musical education possible.

Brandon University’s School of Music invites applications for a tenure-track position in Composition (subject to budgetary approval).  The successful candidate will teach a range of undergraduate and graduate courses in composition, and other courses depending on the successful candidate’s areas of expertise and interest as well as the needs of the School of Music.  In addition, the successful candidate will have deep knowledge of and engagement with Indigenous musical practices, and a keen interest in engaging Indigenous and non-Indigenous students and community members through musical, artistic, and pedagogical endeavours.  Also, the successful candidate will provide leadership in curriculum and program development, maintain an active research/creative profile, and contribute collegially to the academic life of the institution and their field.

Rank and Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Qualifications: A doctoral degree in Composition or equivalent non-traditional career path is preferred; ABD candidates will be considered.  Post-secondary teaching experience is an asset, as is potential for developing a national/ international profile as a composer.
Start Date: July 1, 2020
