Call for Papers—Malcolm Forsyth: Perspectives and Legacy
Festival and Symposium, The University of Calgary, Division of Music,
17-19 October 2019.
Music at the School of the Creative and Performing Arts, the Canadian Music Centre (Prairie Region), the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra, and the University of Calgary Library and Cultural Resources are hosting a festival/symposium at The University of Calgary in celebration of the music and legacy of South- African/Canadian composer Malcolm Forsyth from October 17-19, 2019. Entitled "Malcolm Forsyth: Perspectives and Legacy," this will be the first major consideration of Forsyth since his death in 2011.
Submissions are invited on any aspect of the music and legacy of Malcolm Forsyth, ranging from studies of his work to considerations of his accomplishments as a teacher, mentor, and influence on the Canadian music scene. The symposium seeks to explore the technical and aesthetic facets of Forsyth's work, and also to examine the roles of gender and ethnicity as they may constitute an element in his music, life, and legacy.
